PONGHOLE

Ponghole Rules (2v2)

Objective:

The objective of the game is to plug all six holes before the opposing team.

Setup:

To play Ponghole, you will need 2 official Pro Beer Sports Ponghole boards, and 2 official Ponghole bags.

  • The official Ponghole board dimensions are 48” (length) x 24” (width) x 1/2” (height) with 6 holes that are 6” in diameter.

  • The official Ponghole bags are roughly 6 square inches and 14-16 ounces.

A regulation size Ponghole court is 8 feet wide and 40 feet long with a recommended vertical clearance of 12 feet.

Boards are positioned 27’ from the front edge to front edge of the boards.

A designated players box is a 4’ x 3’ area at each end of the court and on both sides of each board. Each player has a designated box.

Who goes first:

One player from each team play “Rock-Paper-Scissors” to determine which team tosses first. The winning team tosses first.

Gameplay:

Teammates stand on the same side of the field, one on each side of their board. Teams take turns tossing two bags. Each teammate tosses one bag per round. Players may not step further than the front edge of the Ponghole board while tossing.

When a bag goes through one of the holes, that hole is covered with a plug. The tossing team is responsible for waiting to toss again until a hole is plugged. Tosses taken before a hit hole is plugged still count.

When a team makes the last remaining hole, the other team has a chance for a rebuttal. The team trying to rebuttal will alternate tosses until one player misses or all remaining holes are plugged. If they make all remaining holes, the game goes to overtime.

In overtime, all holes are plugged except the top middle hole. The team that plugged all the holes first, tosses first in overtime. During overtime, only one toss per team until somebody cannot match. Teammates must alternate who takes this one toss.

Winning:

The first team to plug their 6 holes without the other team making a rebuttal wins. In overtime, the first team to hit the hole without the other team being able to match wins.

Special Rules:

When not throwing, players need to stand behind their board.

If the first bag stays on the board without going into a hole, the second toss may push that bag into a hole.

Judgement Rulings:

If players step over or their hand crosses the foul line at the edge of their board, their toss does not count.

FAQ:

What happens if both teammates hit a different hole with their toss in the same turn?

Unlike other games, not special happens if both players hit their toss. Each player has one toss per round with no way to increase it.

What happens if both teammates hit the same hole with their toss in the same turn?

They wasted their second toss! Let the other team plug the board before tossing your second bag.
